Edessa is a specialist on humanitarian security. She founded the social enterprise Strategic Edge International to protect and train humanitarian workers, project personnel, and travellers in crisis countries. Based in Switzerland, SEI is currently active in Iraq, Kurdistan, Nepal, and Afghanistan. As an advocate for people’s right to be free from want and fear, Edessa and SEI offer capacity-building to grassroots organisations. Edessa is also a guest faculty member of the Centre for Education and Research on Humanitarian Action (CERAH) at the University of Geneva.
Edessa started this blog when she was the Head of Studies at WhiteHouse Graduate School of Management in Kathmandu, Nepal. The initial purpose was to keep in touch with her MBA students and alumni, not just in Nepal, but everywhere around the world where she had been their teacher, mentor, and friend. Today, it is a venue whereby she can share her perspectives on security, education, and social change.
